Care to Haggle
  • Victorian cast iron and steel fire grate by Thomas Elsley, London. The decorative cast iron back plate is decorated with Neptune standing above two seahorses with the fictitious date of 1697. (The Victorians did like to put spurious dates on this type of fire back, often with little or no symbolism or meaning to the piece).
What happened in 1697? On the 2nd December 1697 St Paul’s Cathedral was opened in London, UK.
