Large and unusual antique late Victorian carved oak fireplace surround in the 18th century manner with deeply carved egg and dart moulded slender legs with dog leg mouldings supporting a deep frieze with further egg and dart and fluted mouldings flanking a large and extremely shapely carved central plaque depicting a pair of winged lions holding an unadorned shield and ribbon amongst acanthus scrolls. The whole below a deep shelf carved in a geometric pattern of repeating octagons each centered with a styalised flower. A very handsome and imposing chimneypiece.
