Large and rare Victorian Gothic fireplace insert produced by the Coalbrookdale foundry. A simple frame borders larger than average runs of 8 inch square tiles of bamboo canes with Squash plants growing around them, the plant bearing fruit. Tiles produced by Minton Hollins of Stoke on Trent. The grate itself is very well cast with a very large burning area, suitable for coal, log or conversion to a gas fire. Above this is a Gothic arched canopy with applied cast iron detail in the spandrels. This pattern was first registered on 31st August 1872, it was then protected for a further 3 years. So this grates dates from between 1872-1875.
Overall 42″wide x 41″high. This insert requires a surround with an aperture no less than 38.5″wide x 39″ high. For more sizes see the size diagram in the image gallery.
