A substantial antique Victorian slate fireplace surround with ornate acanthus leaf carved corbels supporting the ogee moulded shelf above wide plain jambs, circa 1880. The surround has an oiled finish to deepen and enhance the slate’s natural colour and markings.
There is a naturally occurring fissure in the lower left jamb. This is not considered a flaw or defect but rather a natural feature of the slate’s formation. It does not affect the slate’s structural integrity and isn’t evident unless pointed out in this way. It can be seen in the last photo.
