A pair of 19th century English carved oak panels, well worked with central motif of sea griffins wrapping themselves around stylised trees. Sea griffins, also know as gryphon-marine is a heraldic symbol that symbolises strength, nobility and protection and were often used in coat of arms across Europe including Germany, Poland and France. These panels would once have formed part of a larger interior scheme. Perhaps incorporated in a piece of furniture, a fireplace or wall panelling
The oak has developed a deep, warm patina, and bear minor surface marks and signs of previous fixing or mountings which only add to the charm and character of the piece.
